Phones. Portable music. Ongoing commentary on everything from the presidential election to the tragic outcome of the gorilla in\u00a0the Cincinnati zoo. Sometimes it seems like there is so much information\u00a0to take in, that it all gets so overwhelming.<\/p>\n<p>Last week I had the good fortune of spending two days of my study leave at\u00a0a conference for pastors held at Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania.\u00a0The speakers were great, the fellowship was great, the food was great. It\u00a0was one of the most refreshing and challenging conferences I\u2019ve ever been\u00a0to. But the best part was the morning I did devotions by the lake. I found a\u00a0quiet place and read some scripture and listened. No phones (though I did\u00a0use my phone to snap a picture \u2013 see above), no email, no social media,\u00a0no&#8230;noise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Psalm 46:10 we read these words: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left:30px;\"><strong><em>Be still and know that I am God.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How often we do the opposite? We try to know God more by doing more\u00a0and more.
