Dear Friends,<\/p>\n

This Sunday I am beginning a sermon series on the book of 1 John. This\u00a0letter by one of Jesus\u2019 closest disciples was written in response to some\u00a0very dangerous teaching that was getting attached to the gospel. It was so\u00a0pervasive and appealing that it took generations for the Church to effectively counter it. It is called Gnosticism. Ironically, Gnosticism is a problem for us even today.<\/p>\n

Whenever you hear someone question when something can be objectively\u00a0true (especially spiritual matters or religious doctrine) or that someone\u00a0claims something is \u201ctrue for me,\u201d you are encountering Gnosticism.<\/p>\n

I haven\u2019t given the series a title, but if I did, I would be inclined to call it\u00a0\u201cThe Gospel of Jesus Christ: True or False?\u201d\u00a0I hope you will plan on coming to hear this series, which will take us to\u00a0advent.<\/p>\n

I am also excited about Sunday, October 2. We have a busy day that day.\u00a0During the Sunday school hour, George Tabb will be giving a report on the\u00a0adult mission trip that happened in late August. Students from grade 6\u00a0and all adults are welcome and encouraged to come to that report.<\/p>\n

We will also be hosting the Eastern Panhandle Mission Community fall\u00a0music festival<\/a>. The EPMC is the community of Presbyterian churches from\u00a0Morgan, Berkeley and Jefferson counties.<\/a> This annual festival features\u00a0individual choirs of singers and ringers. The program will be followed by a\u00a0reception in the fellowship hall.<\/p>\n

As you can see, some exciting things are happening at Charles Town Presbyterian Church<\/a>. Please plan on joining us as we continue doing God\u2019s\u00a0work<\/a>.<\/p>\n
